Custom made foot orthotics are inserts for your shoes that are designed to improve foot function and lower-limb alignment. They do not require special shoes to be worn, rather the materials used and the style of orthotic chosen is determined by your specific needs and the footwear you prefer to wear. Orthotics are a very effective tool used in the treatment of a variety of conditions, such as: plantar fasciitis (heel pain), metatarsalgia (forefoot pain), Achilles tendonitis and alignment issues causing knee or low back pain.
If you think you may benefit from orthotics, you can book an appointment for a free 30-minute assessment with our Certified Pedorthist, Meghan Muldoon. If you have private health insurance, it is recommended that you call your provider before the appointment so you are aware of your coverage. Custom foot orthotics are medical devices that often require a prescription from a physician in order to be covered by insurance. If this is the case for you, we also suggest seeing your doctor before coming in for the free consultation.
During the assessment, a biomechanical and gait analysis will be conducted as well as a thorough health history related to your lower-limb concerns. It is also useful for you to bring in the footwear that you wear most often or find cause you the most discomfort so they can be assessed as well. If it is determined that custom foot orthotics are right for you and you choose to proceed, a mould of your feet will be taken at this time. Your custom-made foot orthotics are then hand-crafted by Meghan and can be ready to be picked up in about a week. If you have any concerns or questions following the pick up, Meghan will continue to work with you to ensure the most effective and beneficial orthotics are achieved.
