Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral approaches are a set of gentle manual therapy techniques used to evaluate and treat the craniosacral system, which includes the bones, soft tissues, and fluids that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. These techniques are based on the principles of osteopathy and cranial osteopathy, and are used to help improve the function and mobility of the craniosacral system, as well as to address a variety of health conditions.

Craniosacral therapy involves gentle manipulation of the bones and tissues of the skull, face, spine, and pelvis to improve the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and release tension and restrictions in the tissues. The therapy also involves gentle touch and dialogue with the patient’s body to help identify areas of tension and restriction, and to facilitate the body's natural healing process.

Craniosacral approaches are used to treat a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Chronic pain

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders

  • Neck and back pain

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Insomnia and sleep disorders

  • Digestive disorders

  • Sinusitis and allergies

Craniosacral therapy is generally considered safe and is well-tolerated by most patients, including infants, children, and the elderly. However, it is important to note that craniosacral therapy should not be used as a replacement for medical care, and patients should always consult with their healthcare provider before starting any new treatment.
